Leonard Cohen - Almost like the blues

The master celebrates his 80th birthday on September 21 and two days later he will release a new studio album: ‘Popular problems’, which is a very Leonard Cohen type of title. This one is the first track that he likes to share with the world. It contains brilliant lyrics (as usual), and beautiful touches like a horn section and careful backings by The mighty Webb Sisters. And is it me, or did his voice get even deeper than two years ago?

Johnny Marr - Easy money (official video)

The second solo effort from Johnny Marr is due October 4 and will be titled ‘Playland’. ‘Easy money’ is the first single.

Ryan Adams - Gimme something good

New sounds from Ryan Adams! And it’s more catchy than ever! The album ‘Ryan Adams’ is due out Sept.9 …

FKA Twigs - Hide

This is a beautiful video with new sensation FKA Twigs - her debut LP1 comes out soon - singing and dancing amidst Mayan ruins in Tulum, Mexico. It is part of Young Turks’ DAZED Visonaries series by Your Truly.

Next week FKA Twigs plays at the Pukkelpop festival in Belgium, where I hope she will be one of the highlights.

Spoon - Do you (Official video)

'They want my soul' is the 8th studio effort by indierock darlings Spoon. Every record they made got them a bigger fanbase in the US, but in Europe they are still an 'insiders band' … Time to change that! 'Do you' is yet again a tremendous single. The video reminds me of Radiohead's 'Karma Police' by the way …

Adult Jazz - Am Gone

This is why the hashtag #bestneweverything was invented. Debut album ‘Gist is’ from this Leeds outfit is out early August …

Tinariwen - Live at World Cafe Philadelphia (February 7,2014)

This is a stripped down version of the band Tinariwen, who play desert blues that gets you hypnotized … To be seen in Belgium this Saturday at Sfinks Mixed near Antwerp.

Nils Frahm - live @ La Villette Sonique (02/06/2014)

No words needed. This is just one hour and a half of pure beauty. Nils Frahm will play in Bruges (Belgium) on July 31st, and I’m quite sure I will be there as well.

The Ramones - Blitzkrieg Bop, in honour of Tommy Ramone (R.I.P.)

Right under this video on YouTube, someone wrote this. It says it all: Tom Erdelyi a/k/a Tommy Ramone — the last of the four founding members of groundbreaking Seventies rock and roll band The Ramones — died at 12:15 p.m. today (7.11.2014) at his home in Ridgewood, Queens. He was 65 and had been in hospice care following treatment for cancer of the bile duct.

Tommy Ramone wrote the majority of “Blitzkrieg Bop.”

Gregory Porter & The Metropole Orchestra @ Paradiso, Amsterdam

A live captation of a very special performance of one of the best modern jazz singers. This summer and fall he will play on various occasions in Belgium and Holland … looking forward to that!
