Peter Matthew Bauer - Philadelphia Raga (official video)

The title debut LP of this former member of The Walkmen, ‘Liberation’, was released June 16th. I really like his sound: a bit psychedelic, a glimps of shoegaze and lots of craftsmanship. Peter Matthew Bauer reminds me of the late Lee Ranaldo (who is still alive and kicking, don’t worry), The Velvet Underground and the effortless class of British artist Richard Hawley.

He’ll be playing the Best Kept Secret Festival in The Netherlands this week … looking forward to that.

This video was shot on location at the 700 and around the city (of ?)

Jake Bugg - Slumville Sunrise (live @ Pinkpop 3 On Stage)
For several years now, the Dutch television program 3 On Stage has a small container at the Pinkpop festival, where they record intimate sessions. Few people can attend, and it isn’t announced which artist will perform … Jake Bugg did a session as well, and this is his surprisingly accurate - because it is acoustic - version of ‘Slumville Sunrise’.

Jack White - Just one drink (Live @ The Tonight Show)
Last night Jack White talked to Jimmy Fallon about his new record ‘Lazaretto’, which comes out on 180 gram vinyl and has a sh**oad of features. He also played the track ‘Just one drink’ on the show. That track has the simple opening line “You drink water, I drink gasoline / One of us is happy, one of us is mean” … pure genious!
You can watch both the conversation and the song on NME’s website.

The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion - live at De Kreun (Kortrijk, Belgium)
Back in the 90’s this furious band was very popular and until they went on hiatus in 2007 The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion gained a cult status. When invited to Belgium, the band likes to play the venues they are best fitted for … recently it was De Kreun in Bissegem near Kortrijk (a city in the West of Belgium). The gig was captured on film and a part of it can be seen after the jump!
I particularly like the Beastie Boys cover in the middle. Jon Spencer does ‘She’s on it’ off The Beastie’s first record ‘Licensed to ill’ …

Chet Faker - I want someone badly (live @ Studio Brussel)
On his debut album ‘Built on glass’ Australian artist Chet Faker - real name: Nicholas James Murphy - spices up soft elektronica with afrobeat, house, jazz, funk and soul but this is him in a vulnerable situation. The piano is his only compagnon for this moving cover of Jeff Buckley’s ‘I want someone badly’.
Check this out and be prepared for shivers going down your spine …

Buddhist monks pay incredible tribute to Beastie Boy MCA

This outrageous dance was used to promote MCA Day in Brooklyn (NY), an annual tribute to Beastie Boy Adam “MCA” Yauch, who passed away May 4, 2012 at the age of 47. Ch-ch-check it out!

Röyksopp & Robyn - Do it again (lyric video)

Both Scandinavian acts had successful collaborations in the past, and this summer they will tour together (Pukkelpop in Belgium in on their schedule). ‘Do it again’ is a new song, which will feature on a upcoming EP. An official video is in the making, but for now this will do just fine!

'Do it again' seems to be more typical for Robyn and I honestly don't really feel the Röyksopp connection in this one. It sounds more like something that could have been on Robyn's hit album 'Body talk' … but hey, wasn't that a great LP?

Royal Blood - Live at Eurosonic, Groningen (NL)
Already featured in BBC’s Sound of 2014, this dynamic Brighton based duo is destined to make a big step soon … Singer and bass player Mike Kerr is playing is instrument as a real guitar and Ben Thatcher seems to almost fall off his stool every time he hits the drum. Together they make a lot of catchy noise, similar to what The White Stripes, The Black Keys or Wolfmother did or still do.
Royal Blood will play twice as support act for two big Arctic Monkeys shows soon, a connection we totally get … Enjoy this show they did at showcase festival Eurosonic in the Dutch city of Groningen earlier this year.
